Kazakhstan strengthens financial support for exports to Russia and the countries of the Islamic world on KazanForum

From May 12 to 15, 2026, representatives of the Export Credit Agency of Kazakhstan (ECA Kazakhstan) took an active part in the 17th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” as part of the unified national delegation led by the Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Arman Shakkaliyev.

ECA Kazakhstan’s participation was aimed at strengthening trade and economic ties, developing industrial cooperation, and promoting Kazakhstan’s non-resource exports through insurance and trade finance instruments.

As part of the forum’s business program, Renat Kaliyev, Regional Director of ECA Kazakhstan, held a series of meetings with Russian importers and financial institutions from Tatarstan, Chuvashia, and Mordovia. The discussions focused on accounts receivable insurance and trade finance instruments designed to enhance the sustainability and transparency of foreign trade supplies of Kazakh products to the Russian market.

Speaking at the AAOIFI session on Islamic finance and sukuk, the representative of ECA Kazakhstan spoke about the development of partnerships with Saudi EXIM, DHAMAN, and TurkExim. The speaker specifically noted that short-term accounts receivable insurance (STARI) does not economically contradict Sharia principles and therefore, in the future, these instruments could be adapted to AAOIFI standards.

Special attention during meetings with importers from Russian regions and representatives of the Egyptian delegation was given to the Halal industry, issues of mutual recognition of Halal standards, and financial and insurance support for exports of Kazakh halal products.

The Russian Federation remains Kazakhstan’s key strategic partner: according to the results of 2025, bilateral trade turnover between the two countries reached USD 27.4 billion. Against the backdrop of growing trade volumes, the Agency’s priorities are shifting from supporting one-off contracts to integrating Kazakh enterprises into sustainable production and logistics chains.

Following the meetings held during KazanForum, ECA Kazakhstan further expanded its current pool of projects in the food industry, metallurgy, and mechanical engineering sectors. The agreements reached with Russian partners and importers will strengthen the position of Kazakhstan’s non-resource exports and help unlock the potential of new transport and trade corridors for access to the markets of the Islamic world.
