«KazakhExport» Export insurance company» joint-stock company Participates in 12th Meeting of Intergovernmental Tajik-Kazakh Commission

The regular 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Tajik-Kazakh Economic Cooperation took place on March 20, 2015, in Dushanbe.

At the meeting, the parties reviewed the status and perspectives of trade and economic cooperation between the countries, as well as existing challenges. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Kossim Kodiri, Chair of the State Committee for Investments and Public Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan. From the Kazakh side the meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Talgat Akhsambiev, Deputy Minister of Energy. Representatives of various competent ministries and authorities from both republics, and delegates of Kazakhstan’s business community attended the meeting.

The parties marked the necessity to accelerate work of the Intergovernmental Trade and Economic Commission as an efficient tool for defining the top-priority areas of bilateral interaction in the spheres of mutual interest. 

According to the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Kazakh investors display interest in the energy sector and metal mining industry of Tajikistan. Potential participation of Kazakhstan’s companies in projects on construction of hydro power plants on Tajik rivers has been already discussed previously. Today, Kazakhstan is second in terms of external turnover of Tajikistan among the CIS countries, with import of grain crops and liquefied gas imported mainly from Kazakhstan. 

According to the statistics, the trade turnover between the two countries was over $700 mln in January-December 2014, a 23% increase compared to the same period in 2013. Last year, import of Kazakhstan products to Tajikistan reached $681 mln. Balance of foreign trade is positive and amounts to more than $337 mln.
